ANCHOR CHAIN refers to a special chain that connects the anchor and the hull and transmits the anchor grip. It is often composed of anchor chain links, intermediate links and end links. According to the structure of the link, it can be divided into two types: stud link anchor chain and studless anchor chain. The strength of the former is larger than that of the latter; According to the manufacturing method, the anchor chain can be divided into a cast steel anchor chain and an electric welding anchor chain. The length of the chain is in pcs, and the standard length of each chain is 27.5m. The joints are connected by a connecting link or a kenter shackle. Usually, the main anchor of each 10,000-ton wheel has a chain length of about 12pcs.


Chain Cable is a steel chain that connects the hull to the anchor. The main function of the anchor chain is to connect the anchor to the ship and transmit the anchoring force of the anchor to the hull. When anchoring, the anchor chain has a certain weight, which can play a certain role in the water and other external forces received by the ship. The buffering effect; the anchor chain of the horizontal bottom part maintains the horizontal force of the anchor, which is beneficial to the reliable bottoming of the anchor. At the same time, this part of the chain can also provide a part of the anchoring force due to the blockage of the soil.


According to the structure of the chain, the anchor chain can be divided into two types: a Stud Link Chain and a Studless Chain. The stud link anchor chain is provided with a crosspiece. When the size and material are the same, the strength of the chain is larger than that of the unchained chain, the deformation is small, and it is not easy to twist when stacked, which is a modern medium and large type. Ships are widely used. The chain of the chainless chain has no crosspiece and is only used for small vessels. The specification stipulates that when the diameter of the anchor chain equipped as required does not exceed 17 mm, it may be replaced by a non-stop anchor chain with the same test load or a wire rope or fiber rope with the same breaking load.

The anchor chain is divided according to its manufacturing method, such as cast steel anchor chain, electric welding anchor chain and forged anchor chain. The cast steel anchor chain has high strength, good rigidity, small deformation, wear resistance, the cross-bar is not easy to loose, has a long service life, and is suitable for mass production. The disadvantage is that the process is complicated, the cost is high, and the impact resistance is poor. The electric welding anchor chain is made by bending and welding with the round steel material that meets the requirements, and has the advantages of advanced production technology, simple, low cost and good quality. The forged anchor chain has good impact toughness, but the manufacturing process is complicated, the cost is high, and the quality is unstable.

At present, the electric welding anchor chain has been the most widely used on merchant ships. Almost all of the anchor chains are made by flash welding, and less cast anchor chains are used. Except for the chain attachments, which are mostly forged parts, the forged anchor chain has been basically eliminated.

It is used to produce stud link anchor chain steel grade. The welding anchor chain is divided into three grades of M1, M2 and M3. The cast steel anchor chain is divided into two grades of M2 and M3. Before the corresponding code, add A (such as AM2) to indicate that there is a chain, and B to indicate that there is no chain (there are two levels of BM1 and BM2). The higher the steel grade, the greater the tensile strength. AM1 grade anchor chain steel is killed steel, AM2, AM3 grade anchor chain steel is fully sedative fine grain treated steel. For the same ship, if a strong steel is used, the size of the link can be appropriately reduced.
